Annual Meeting 2023

NOTICE: NEW DATE!

Join us for the Community Land Trust of Waldron Island Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, October 7th on the Commons from 2-4pm.

We will begin with a brief business meeting; including an Annual Report and new Board member nominations; and will then hear from several speakers from our community. Everyone welcome.

In celebration of 30 years of CLTWI, we’ve invited community members William Corr, Jason Lerner, Steve Bensel, Vicki Heater & Jess Arndt to share thoughts and stories related to the mission and purposes of the Land Trust. We’ll hear contributions on themes of past, present, and future of community on Waldron, and are asking the questions, “What brings us together?”, and “How can the CLT best continue to support a thriving year-round community?” Following these short talks, we will pass the rock and hear from anyone moved to speak on these topics.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a member to attend, but you will be able to sign up for membership at the meeting, should you so choose. And we will have CLTWI hats for sale!

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate! Tea, coffee and pastries will be provided.

Mission and Purposes of the CLT:

The Mission of the Community Land Trust of Waldron Island is "to be a resource for and provide affordable homes and land for low-income Waldron residents while cultivating economic sustainability and nurturing land stewardship, thus enriching the entire community."

The purposes as stated in the CLTWI by-laws are “to acquire property on Waldron Island and manage it in order to further the following goals:

  1. To maintain local control over the land;

  2. To help ensure a sustainable, year-round community on the island, including a viable school and to serve that community;

  3. To take land off the speculative market in order to keep it permanently affordable and to facilitate access to land and housing for people of modest means;

  4. To encourage environmentally sensitive, sustainable land use appropriate to the island setting; To protect unique and sensitive natural areas, open space, and sacred sites;

  5. To encourage low-impact agriculture, cottage industry, and other economic activities, consistent with Waldron’s Subarea Plan or successor land use regulations.

Crafts Faire

Each year we host a CLT fundraiser showcasing Island artisans, crafters, printers, cooks, and more.

A share of each of their sales helps fill the Land trust coffers, and we sell pizza, ice cream, and lemonade. To make the day complete, local musicians perform. Join us at the Commons. See our pizza oven in action. Enjoy a day with your community.
